Training pastors and evangelists

The growth of rural churches in Zimbabwe has led to many rural pastors being tasked with ministering to as many as eight different congregations. Global Mission Partners supports the development of local pastors and evangelists, enabling them to share God’s Good News effectively through both words and deed.

What is the Zimbabwe church partnership?

Our partners, the Associated Churches of Christ in Zimbabwe, provide support to both rural and urban churches. They offer training opportunities for leaders to effectively minister in remote communities and in urban areas, including Bulawayo, which is Zimbabwe’s second-largest city. A key focus of their efforts is to provide pastors and evangelists with motorbikes. This initiative equips them to reach the many congregations they serve and addresses the challenges of accessing their remote ministry areas.

What is the impact of this project?

Trained evangelists are equipped with motorbikes to travel further among remote communities, and share God’s love with the many congregations they serve and new churches they establish. They are supported with a motorcycle, fuel and necessary repairs, registration and insurance costs. To date, 30 motorcycles have been supplied to pastors and evangelists in Zimbabwe so they can reach remote locations with the love of Jesus. 

When a pastor and evangelist receive training and train others, their congregations are better empowered to understand the Bible, participate in local service, and support the church if the evangelist or pastor is not there. Members are looked after with pastoral care and receive support during times of sickness, domestic issues,  weddings and funerals. People are visited in their homes, even if they live far from the church, and can receive prayer and encouragement because a pastor can travel with his motorbike to visit them.
